I grew up in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, where alpine lakes and icy streams nurtured my interest in aquatic ecosystems. I received my bachelor's degrees in Biology and Environmental Studies from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, where I enjoyed exploring the biodiverse streams of the piedmont and Appalachian mountains. After graduating from Guilford I worked for numerous government agencies and NGOs, including some time in Yellowstone working on a native trout conservation project. I spent multiple field seasons with USGS and NPS working in the Sierra Nevadas on aquatic restoration, amphibian conservation and endangered species recovery efforts. I'm happy to have returned to Wyoming to conduct research on aquatic pollution and microbial ecology.
